Environmental policy
The USS Serbia Environmental Department is a working resource entity to Operating and Maintenance facilities at USS Serbia and its Affiliated Companies. The department has the responsibility to provide professional input, advice and counsel to insure the operations effectively reduce emissions, discharges and maintain storage facilities for lubricants to comply with Serbian State laws and existing USS policies, practices and procedures. The U. S. Steel Serbia Sabac tin-plate facility has been certified to the ISO 14001:1996 standard since October 2003. This certification recognizes that our Environmental Management System (EMS) meets the world standard and effectively addresses environmental aspects that U. S. Steel Serbia can control and directly manage. In addition, the Smederevo facility is also going forward with developing an EMS that will meet the ISO 14001 standard. U. S. Steel Serbia, d.o.o. undertakes itself to conduct full environmental protection of local, regional and global area. Environmental protection is one of the basic requirements of Business Policy, Quality Policy, Technology and Economy in U. S. Steel Serbia, d.o.o. In order to achieve and maintain established goals we shall... IDENTIFY ASPECTS that occur or may occur in production, rank them and bring them under control in order to, through planning and joint management procedures, minimize their effect FOLLOW THE LAW in order to ensure ever higher consistency in implementation of all the laws and regulations as well as accepted environmental protection- related obligations CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVE environmental protection, raw material savings, utilities, reduction in use of hazardous material and by-products and waste generation, being a basis for general and specific goals definition PUBLICIZE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION RESULTS in order to communicate with our employees, the community and our business partners CONTINUOUSLY TRAIN our employees so that each one is aware of Environmental Protection Policy and has the knowledge and motivation necessary to reach general and specific environment protection goals
